Student Wellbeing
SEDA make a strong commitment to each and every student within our program to provide holistic support that meets their physical, social, emotional and psychological needs. We have a strong student wellbeing team who focus on a preventative wellbeing approach as well as offer counselling support and have strong links to external support services.
SEDA’s preventative approach focuses on empowering our students with the tools they need to help themselves and others with issues relating to their wellbeing. This approach includes prevention presentations and programs on a range of issues affecting our students.
In 2011, many SEDA students saw a range of prevention presentation’s including:
• Safe Partying
• Mental Health Awareness
• Drug and Alcohol Awareness
• Gambling Awareness
• Cyber Bullying
• Reach Foundation Workshops
• Road Safety
• Prevention of Violence Against Women (White Ribbon Day)
• Respect and Responsibility Workshops
In 2012, SEDA’s wellbeing team plan to expand on the number of presentations and also introduce new prevention programs. Our programs for 2012 will focus on the following topics:
• Cyber Safety
• Reach Foundation Workshops
• Mental Health Awareness
• Sexual Health
• Respect and Responsibility Workshops
• Prevention of Street Violence
• Social, Life and Coping skills
Along with this SEDA is looking forward to participating in and celebrating many national and worldwide awareness events including:
• International Women's Day (8th March)
• National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence: (16th March)
• R U OK Day (13th September)
• Mental Health Awareness Day: (10th October)
• White Ribbon Day: (25th November)
Student Wellbeing Newsletters:
The SEDA wellbeing team provides parents, students and teachers with updates each term, about prevention programs that have taken place, via the Student Wellbeing Newsletter. Past and present Student Wellbeing Newsletters can be accessed from the following page www.sedagroup.com.au/wordpress/.
Student Wellbeing Referral and Support:
SEDA have a strong and diverse wellbeing team that includes teachers, program coordinators and student wellbeing coordinators. This team work together to address all student needs and ensure that the most appropriate person provides support to each student in an effective and efficient manner. Any student who identifies or is identified as having a need can speak with their class teacher who will provide initial support and gather relevant information. If the teacher needs additional support, the program coordinator and or student wellbeing coordinator will be contacted dependant on the complexity of the student's needs.
